Citizen Lab Links Discover-Tech Ad Platform to Zero-Click Government Spyware
Government spyware makers are abusing global advertising networks to target and compromise devices through malicious online advertisements, according to Citizen Lab. Researchers identified Israeli company Discover-Tech as providing an advertising platform that enables spyware makers to target specific people or devices almost anywhere in the world and deliver spyware capable of covertly stealing data. Citizen Lab identified Candiru and Bindecy as users of Discover-Tech’s platform and said both companies provide zero-click surveillance products. Victims do not need to click an advertisement, open a message, or follow a link for infection to occur. The reported technique turns online advertising infrastructure into a targeted surveillance delivery channel, underscoring that avoiding suspicious links alone does not address this threat..
